About Andover Pediatrics

Our physicians and nurse practitioners provide a wide variety of pediatric care ranging from the newborn to the college physical. The office is prepared for routine sick visits, and more urgent problems such as lacerations, trauma, and asthma. Chronic issues such as behavioral and school problems and eating disorders can be handled in collaboration with other specialists. The practice serves as the medical home for many area camps, schools, daycare facilities, and residential group homes.

Our nursing and medical assistant personnel perform tasks such as telephone triage, handling patient questions, doing hearing and vision screening; obtaining vital signs and administering vaccinations.

The administrative staff is available from 9:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Monday – Friday, to book routine and urgent appointments, make referrals to specialists, and handle billing claims and questions. Our office, led by office manager, Diane Alie, is committed to making your experience with us as pleasant as possible. We welcome constructive feedback about how we are doing and routinely conduct satisfaction surveys to improve our practice.

Our greatest asset is our personable staff. Our front desk staff is helpful and pleasant. Parents gain a sense of calm and control with our nurses’ caring and knowledgeable advice. Our nurse practitioners and board certified pediatricians have the expertise to help children weather through illness and help parents navigate through their children’s development from infancy to adolescence. Local resources are available to provide convenient and efficient care to our children including local laboratory and imaging, inpatient and outpatient medical services at nearby community hospitals, and sub specialists in the area for consultation. Our pediatricians also enjoy close ties with tertiary care centers in Boston where children can receive top notch pediatric care.

Our History

In the early 1970’s, a group of physicians in the Merrimack Valley got together to build Doctor’s Park I, which was the first multidisciplinary clinic of its kind in the area. Specialties included internal medicine, pediatrics, radiology, laboratory, general surgery, orthopedics, and ob-gyn. During the mid 1980’s, Doctor’s Park II was constructed, offering more specialty care and a surgical day-care center.

Andover Pediatrics was the first true pediatric group practice in the entire area, since traditionally, pediatricians had worked in solo practice. Today, Andover Pediatrics has grown, employing 6 board certified pediatricians and 3 pediatric nurse practitioners.

In August, 2004, the office moved to a larger space within Doctor’s Park, almost doubling in size and allowing us to deliver more efficient care. At the same time, we converted to an electronic medical record system, becoming a true paperless office.

Our Affiliations

Local Hospitals

Our pediatricians hold staff positions at Lawrence General Hospital (LGH), located in Lawrence, MA. We occasionally send patients there for urgent and emergency room care and have admitting privileges at its in-patient unit.

LGH has a Special Care Nursery, supervised by a neonatologist, which provides more complicated newborn care. LGH has 24 hour a day coverage for its nursery and delivery room. For more information, visit lawrencegeneral.org

Emergencies

If you have a true life-threatening emergency after hours that cannot wait for one of us to call, please take your child to the closest emergency room.

The Massachusetts Poison Control Center is open 24 hours a day for consultation regarding known or possible exposures to poisons. Their telephone number is 800-682-9211. If you have Syrup of Ipecac in the house, do not use it unless advised to do so by one of us or the poison center.

Tertiary Care Hospitals

Andover Pediatrics refers patients to specialists locally, as well as to the four tertiary care centers in Boston:

  • The Floating Hospital for Children at New England Medical Center
  • The Massachusetts General Hospital for Children
  • Boston Medical Center
  • Children’s Hospital Boston

Children who require specialized inpatient care are also referred to these hospitals. Boston hospitals also offer satellite clinics at several sites closer to Andover in many specialties, making these visits much more convenient. We know many specialists both in the local area and in Boston and can help guide you to the person we feel would be best for a child’s specific problem.
