Local Hospitals
Our pediatricians hold staff positions at Lawrence General Hospital (LGH), located in Lawrence, MA, and Caritas Holy Family Hospital (HFH) in Methuen, MA. We occasionally send patients there for urgent and emergency room care and have admitting privileges at both hospitals in-patient units.
LGH and HFH each have a Special Care Nursery, supervised by a neonatologist, which provides more complicated newborn care. Both hospitals have 24 hour a day coverage for the nursery and delivery room.
LGH also has a convenient After Hours Clinic, and sees sick children after local pediatric offices close. Patients may be referred to a pediatrician there for an appointment for urgent care.
Emergencies
If you have a true life-threatening emergency after hours that cannot wait for one of us to call, please take your child to the closest emergency room.
The Massachusetts Poison Control Center is open 24 hours a day for consultation regarding known or possible exposures to poisons. Their telephone number is 800-682-9211. If you have Syrup of Ipecac in the house, do not use it unless advised to do so by one of us or the poison center.
Tertiary Care Hospitals
Andover Pediatrics refers patients to specialists locally, as well as to the four tertiary care centers in Boston: The Floating Hospital for Children at New England Medical Center, The Massachusetts General Hospital for Children, Boston Medical Center and Children’s Hospital of Boston. Children who require specialized inpatient care are also referred to these hospitals. Boston hospitals also offer satellite clinics at several sites closer to Andover in many specialties, making these visits much more convenient. We know many specialists both in the local area and in Boston and can help guide you to the person we feel would be best for a child’s specific problem.
Residency Programs
Pediatricians-in-training from The Floating Hospital for Children and the Massachusetts General Hospital for Children, and Nurse Practitioners-in-training also see patients at Andover Pediatrics. They conduct routine physical exams and see sick children under physician supervision.
Our physicians also welcome other medical students from Harvard University and family practice residents from Greater Lawrence Family Health Center to observe patient care. Dr. Pritchard did her ambulatory pediatric part of her MGH residency training for 4 years at Andover Pediatrics.
