A Message to Our Parents and Adolescent Patients

As our young patients grown older, they take more responsibility for themselves and for their own health care. We want them and their parents to know that we view them as our patients, and that our primary concern and responsibility is for them and for their needs. We encourage our adolescent and young adult patients to speak with us directly, and to feel free to discuss with us any concerns that they may have about their health and their bodies.

On some occasions, there will be issues that our patients discuss with us that will be confidential. We encourage discussion of these issues. It is our policy to keep any discussed information confidential that our patients request us to, with the exception of issues that might be life-threatening.

Once a patient leaves high school it is time to move on to an adult doctor. This usually happens at age 18. We will continue to provide urgent care for young adults throughout a transition year, typically the first year in college. We may ask that you complete a transfer form and make arrangements to pick up a copy of your medical records as we encourage you to search for a new doctor during this time.
